Teaching Methodology – The SABIS Point System®

Teaching Methodology – The SABIS Point System®

Central to the SABIS® curriculum is the SABIS Point System®, an instructional approach which integrates teacher led instruction with individual student practice and group work. SABIS® textbooks facilitate the implementation of the curriculum and the use of the SABIS Point System®.

Academic programs are divided into simple units of information referred to as “points” that make up the building blocks of students’ knowledge. Points are distributed among all the lessons of the year and delivered using SABIS®’s proprietary teaching methodology, the SABIS Point System®. A school powered by SABIS® is provided with a pacing chart and a set of lesson plans for each course, detailing which points should be taught when. Each point is a very specific skill or concept.

The points are meant to be taught one at a time using the SABIS Point System®. For each one, teachers integrate instruction for short periods of time with individual student practice and group work – all guided by a four-step process of Teach, Class Practice, Individual Practice, and Check. The result is learning efficiency in an interactive, engaging classroom environment.

SABIS® teachers are trained to use the SABIS Point System® in the classroom and the school academic controllers (or AQCs) follow-up and coach teachers on this use through continuous professional development.
